Small Groups

Small Group ministry encourages us to belong to a group for spiritual support within the diversity of a large congregation. All our small groups are centered in Christian faith and ask participants to maintain commitment to one another for prayer, friendship, and mutual care.

The activities of the groups represent many varied interests.

Companions in Christ is for spiritual formation, that is, inner growth and outer living in intentional patterns of faith. Participants enter into the scriptures on a deep and experiential level. (Companions in Christ is offered through Adult Education.)

Disciple Classes can be described as “Small Groups” because the group size is limited, and they meet weekly for Christ-centered study, prayer, and mutual care. The intensive study series, “Disciple,” incorporates reading between meetings, video lectures from biblical scholars, personal reflection, and shared discussion. (Disciple is offered through Adult Education.)

Knitting and Crochet Small Group enjoys fellowship, encourages one another, shares knitting skills, and creates charity projects in addition to producing personal pieces.

Meditative Prayer Group is a small group in which participants center on a regular practice of prayer and meditation together. This group meets every Thursday morning for one hour and a half (8:15AM -9:45AM) in the Church Library.

Men’s Breakfast Bible Study has been meeting at the church each Wednesday morning from 7:00 – 8:00 since 1989. Breakfast is shared, and the participants take turns leading the Bible study, using Barclay’s commentaries for guidance. Always welcoming, the group encourages the freedom for each man to say whatever he believes in his heart and mind.

Monday Morning Bible Study is a group of women who meet every other Monday morning at a member’s home, studying scripture and strengthening bonds of Christian friendship. The group uses the Interpretation series as the curriculum for their study.

Religious Book Group is a small group in which participants read a variety of religious literature and discuss their readings together. This group meets once per month for one hour and fifteen minutes (the third Thursday of the month, from 11:45-1:00). Books range from novels to theology to devotional literature. The group makes the reading choice together, and leadership for each meeting is shared.

Wednesday Women’s Bible Study Group meets Wednesday mornings during the traditional school year 10-11:30 AM for intentional support and study. The time together includes sharing concerns and prayer, as well as scripture study.

Welcome Table is a meal fellowship which aims to build a sense of community within the church. The Welcome Table offers a way of recognizing Christ in one another through the breaking of bread. Welcome Table participants share meals each month in dinner groups composed of different people.

And Others!  Small groups don’t fit a definite pattern or structure, so you may find other small groups that are a part of church life, or you may want to start one! Small groups can have a variety of activities or purposes, but they all follow the model of Jesus with his disciples:
They are Christ centered with around 12 members in a group.
They are intentional about being a group and committed to regularly meeting and praying together.
They support and care for one another.
