"Truly
I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least
of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."

We are a loving servant church...
Each year St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church provides monetary support, volunteers and gifts in-kind to numerous community organizations including:
...we strive to live our faith as
responsible stewards
through a caring ministry to each other...
Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. This command puts the responsibility for passing on God's love on all of us, making us God's ministers. Stephen Ministry provides one-on-one caring relationships. Through this program those who are in need receive the love and care which helps support them at a time of stress. This might include those who are hospitalized, ill, bereaved, in a job crisis, new members of the church, disabled, homebound, lonely or in spiritual distress. St. Andrews-Covenant instituted this program in 1990 in an effort to assist the ministerial staff with the increasing needs of a growing congregation. Since then, over one hundred members have participated in 50 hours of training, have continued bimonthly supervision groups and have learned the principles of confidentiality, listening and support. As we are taught, "God provides the cure - a Stephen Minister provides the care." Someone desiring Christian care can be assigned a Stephen Minister through the referral process. A potential care receiver may contact one of the ministerial staff or a referral may be made by a friend or relative who sees a need and obtains permission from the person for a referral to be made. Contact the Church Office for more information.
The Care Line offers prayer support for members and friends of St. Andrews-Covenant by communicating prayer concerns and praises via prayer lists, telephone recordings, and the web. The Care Line is updated three times a week with prayer requests regarding current hospitalizations, sympathies, births, illnesses, surgeries, etc.
...and to a suffering world.
M
embers of St. Andrews- Covenant Presbyterian Church enthusiastically involve themselves in mission. We offer opportunities for persons of all ages to make a difference through serving others. We believe that Jesus calls us to be in relationship with others as we work together for healing and justice. These are the mission experiences we shared in the year 2002:Charleston SC – This is introductory mission experience is offered annually for elementary age children and parents. The team serves the poor in urban Charleston. On a different mission trip to the Charleston area, middle school students join other young people from around the country to help with minor home repair and painting projects.
Jamaica – This summer high school students spent ten days in Jamaica in building construction, providing food, and playing and working with children through the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf.
Reynosa, Mexico – Each year a combined team of high school students and adults travels to the border of Mexico to build simple homes, providing shelter and safety to the families there. Participants in this rewarding ministry have made long-lasting relationships through working and worshipping with friends in the Mexican community.
Brazil – St. Andrews-Presbyterian Church is in a partnership with the Petropolis Presbyterian Church in Manaus, Brazil. We have sent teams for teaching, medical care, and construction to work in villages along the Amazon River, accessible only by water. We exchange visits between our pastor and the pastor of that congregation as well as other church leaders.
Washington, DC – In the fall we have a long weekend for mission in an urban setting. This year a group of high school students and adults worked in soup kitchens and shelters as they learned about homelessness, hunger, and prejudice.
