Spring Family Paddle

Black River

April 27, 2024
7:00am - 3:30pm

***FREE EVENT!***

***REGISTRATION REQUIRED no later than 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 25th.***

Our very own, Pate Southerland, will be the guide for this scenic and beautiful 6-mile paddle along the Black River. This is a very easy paddle by canoe or kayak and is great for families with children who like to explore the outdoors. There are many beautiful cypress trees on this stretch of the river and the water is very clean because there is no industry located nearby.

We will take a lunch break at Red Star Fish Camp. Wear your swimsuit if you want to swim at lunch. We will take out at the Hwy 210 bridge.

DEPARTURE:

Plan to gather at the parking lot by New Hanover High School's tennis courts next to Brown Hall at 7:00 am sharp. We will leave at 7:30 am and travel approximately 30 miles by caravan to Hunt’s Bluff Wildlife Landing, our put-in on the Black River.

ARRIVAL:

Should have you back in Wilmington by 3:30 pm.

WHAT TO BRING:

Your own kayak or canoe (if you need one, contact Pate Southerland at 910.262.4122).

Be sure to bring a windbreaker-type jacket, hat or cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Pack a light lunch, snacks, and drinks. No alcohol.

****Everyone must bring and wear a life jacket on the river.***

Any questions, or if you need a boat, call Pate Southerland at 910.262.4122.
