Palm Sunday

This Sunday

"The good news is...requires us to act."

Rev. Katherine B. Harrington
On our journey to the cross this Lent, we have been reminded every week that the good news of the gospel is so good that it requires us to respond--with action. We truly see this embodied on Palm Sunday.

This Sunday, join us as we wave our palms and sing God's praises even while we prepare ourselves for the dark journey of Holy Week. Katie will be preaching from Mark 11:1-11. We will also collect One Great Hour fish boxes. Scroll down for details.

Spotlight on a Saint

Tell Us Something Good!!

Calling all parents/guardians! We know our young people are living out the Good News of Jesus and want to celebrate their work! Especially, if they are active in PC(USA) affiliated programs outside of SACPC. For example:

Our own Olivia Phelps was part of the PC(USA) delegation to the UN for the Conference on the Status of Women. Olivia had the opportunity to listen to stories from women around the world, learn more about the needs, barriers and gender inequality women continue to face, and was even asked to take part in a panel of young women doing advocacy work.

What stories do you have to share? Click the link below to tell us something Good.

After the Amen

This past Sunday, Katie led us into one of Scripture's most challenging encounters within John 8:2-11 with the woman caught in adultery. Katie reminds us Jesus refused the false choice between justice and mercy, kneeling in the dirt and writing in the sand while accusers clutched their stones. His words, "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone," echoes straight into our own hands today. This is our story, too. We rush to judgment. We reduce people to their worst moments. We forget that mercy and justice belong together. This Lent, we are invited to set down the stones we carry and receive the same costly, dignified love Jesus offered the accused woman.

As we meditate on John 8:2-11 try one or two of these practices this week:

  1. Her Name is Legion: Katie's sermon reminds us that "this woman's story or one similar to it has been played out in the headlines of newspapers, in churches, in schools, in families for thousands of years." Where do you see this story playing out today? Who are the women (or people) being used as props in public debates while their humanity is ignored?
  2. Seeing Through Jesus' Eyes: Jesus "truly saw the value of each person's life no matter what." Who in your life or community do you struggle to see this way? What would it look like to see them through Jesus' lens of mercy and justice?
  3. Go and Sin No More: Jesus doesn't excuse the woman's sin, but offers her grace and a new path forward. How do we balance accountability with compassion in our relationships? In our church? In society?

Easter Invites | Tell Me Something Good

by Katie Harrington
Every week this Lenten season, we have been challenged and encouraged by the good news of the gospel. The good news of Jesus Christ is so good we have to share it! This Easter, share the good news with your friends and neighbors. Invite them to join us for worship to hear and embody the story of the resurrection of Jesus in a new way. Death cannot stop the good news. It is alive and wild in the world!

Welcome New Members | Byrd Family

by Connections Team
Please join us in welcoming the Byrd family to our church! Dustan and Emily Byrd recently joined by reaffirmation of faith, and we are so glad they are here. They were first introduced to SACPC through our preschool ministry and felt drawn to a place where “All are Welcome to The Table.” We’re grateful they found a home here. They have two children, Lilliana (Kindergarten) and Connor (Pre-K), and we’re delighted to have their whole family with us. It’s also a joy to see familiar connections grow; they’re neighbors with the Bohbrinks.

Both Dustan and Emily are pharmacists, Dustan originally from Texas and Emily from Ohio, but they have happily called Wilmington home for more than a decade. They share a love for giving back to the community and enjoy spending time together as a family, especially through kid-friendly and outdoor activities.

In their free time, they enjoy music, pickleball, and golf, and Emily especially enjoys baking as a creative outlet. We are excited to have the Byrd family as part of our church family. Please be sure to say hello and help them feel at home!

Baptism Celebration | Miller Family

by Libby White
Leo James Miller and Beau Jordan Miller, sons of Mara McCaffray and Corey Andrew Miller, received Christian Baptism on March 15, 2026 at SACPC during the 11:00 am service.

In baptism, we promise to guide and nurture these children by word and deed, and love and prayer, encouraging them to know and love Jesus Christ and to be His faithful disciple.

One Great Hour of Sharing

by Lynn Warner
This Sunday, March 29th, Palm Sunday, we will collect our One Great Hour of Sharing Fish Boxes and other donations. We invite your to come forward following the Palm Processional to place your offering in one of the large fish shaped boxes you will see.

One Great Hour began following WWII by US Protestant churches to help areas devastated by war, primarily in Europe and Asia. From the beginning, it has been an ecumenical effort with each denomination allocating its gifts collected for ministries of disaster relief, refugee assistance, and developmental aid.

Our own PC(USA) denomination uses funds collected to help support Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Hunger Assistance and Refugee assistance. Funds are allocated locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. Please consider giving generously to One Great Hour of Sharing!

M&M (Music & More) Updates & Celebrations

by Cindy Litzinger & Lynn Warner
If worship felt a little more energetic than usual this past Sunday, you were not imagining it! Our children helped lead the congregation during the opening hymn, “We Are Marching in the Light of God,” by accompanying the singing on their drums — and they did a fantastic job. Children from Kindergarten through 5th grade have been spending the last several weeks in our Wednesday afternoon Music & More (M&M) time learning different drum beats and rhythms. What started as a few simple patterns quickly turned into a full drum ensemble, and the children were excited to use what they learned to help lead worship.

The children practiced several different rhythms and worked hard on staying together, watching for cues, and keeping a steady beat — not always easy when you have a drum in your hands! Their goal was to help the congregation sing with confidence and joy, and judging by the smiles (and the volume!), they succeeded.

This Sunday also marked the end of our M&M season for this program year. Each week included time for both musical activities and Christian education, giving the children opportunities to grow in faith while also learning to share their gifts in worship. We are so thankful for the children and families who participated each week, and especially grateful for our dedicated volunteers who help make M&M possible by assisting with both the music and education portions of the program. Many thanks to Catheryn Thomas, Beth Davis, and Denny Smith  for their time, energy, and willingness to share their gifts with our children each week.

It has been a joyful season of singing, ringing, drumming, learning, laughing, and making joyful memories together, and we can’t wait to see (and hear!) what our  children will do next year.

Dinner with Bob and Kristi Rice

by Gary Smith
Please join us for a potluck dinner in the dining room at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 7 with Bob and Kristi Rice. The Rices have served as PC(USA) missionaries in the Congo and South Sudan for fifteen years. We have supported them financially during their ministry, and they have visited our church several times over the years.

Later this year, Bob will begin teaching at Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture (ACI) in Ghana. Bring a main dish, a salad, or a dessert and come and hear about their new ministry.
